Fairweather House has been a fixture on Francis Street since the 1940s, built during the boom years of Cape Town's textile manufacturing industry. The building was designed for work, high ceilings, generous floor plates, wide loading access, and robust bones that have outlasted every industry that has occupied it.

For decades it operated as a busy clothing factory. Then, like many Woodstock industrial buildings, it went through a quieter period. But its character, the light, the scale, the texture of the original structure, made it irresistible to a new kind of occupant.

Artists, designers, and architects began moving in from the early 2000s. In 2015, the building underwent significant restoration and was relaunched as a mixed-use creative and commercial community. In 2020, Fairweather House added self-storage and mini office facilities, with updated 2-ton capacity lifts and transformed common spaces.

Today, Fairweather House is one of Cape Town's most accessible and well-equipped self-storage facilities, and one of the most interesting buildings to be based in.
